Solutions for Shipment monitoring & tracking shipment in cold chain transport

Solution 1: TS-logger with manual ON/OFF switch

Sending:

  • TS-logger is switched ON and attached to shipment. Logger may be also fixedly mounted to transport box.
  • Measurements starts after predefined, sensor specific delay period.
  • TS-logger has in it's memory also predefined lower and upper temperature limits.

On the road:

  • TS-logger measures temperatures in 5 minutes interval.
  • If the vehicle has Seemoto gateway the data is send real-time with GPS location to Seemoto service. Shipment can be monitored and tracked in real time.
  • If there is no gateway in the vehicle then the sensor stores measurements to internal memory.

At destination:

  • TS-logger is taken out from shipment and switched OFF
  • TS-logger indicates either with
    • RED LED light - if temperature deviations occurred during transportation.
    • GREEN LED light - if no temperature deviations occurred and all measurements were within predefined lower and upper temperature limits.
  • If Seemoto network is present, the TS-logger automatically connects to the network and uploads all temperature data to Seemoto service. If there is no network available, the TS-logger waits until the network is available and sends the data after joining a network.

Logger report shows:

  • shipment ID, sending time, sending location, arrival time, arrival location, shipment duration
  • minimun and maximun temperature values, average temperature value and temperature alerts, if any
  • From logger report icons, it is possible to open detailed temperature reports and alert reports

Solution 2: Automated end-to-end reports with TS-sensor

Similar to solution 1, but sensor does not have manual switch. TS-sensor monitors continuously and shipment sending and receiving times are derived by other means e.g. location information and/or integration with ERP data.

Sending:

  • TS-sensor is put into shipment or sensor could be also fixedly mounted into transport box
  • Measuring starts either when
    • shipment leaves this location - detected by network joining activity between sensor and gateway, gateway location and service defined POI (point of interest map area)
    • or as a result of sending time data integration from elsewhere e.g. ERP-system

On the road:

  • TS-sensor measures temperatures in 5 minutes interval.
  • If the vehicle has Seemoto gateway the data is send real-time with GPS location to Seemoto service. Shipment can be monitored and tracked in real time.
  • If there is no gateway in the vehicle, then the sensor stores measurements to sensor's internal memory.

At destination:
  • TS-sensor automatically connects Seemoto network, if network is present
  • Shipment ends (=delivered to destination) either when
    • shipment arrives this location - detected by either A.) when truck gateway location is inside destination POI or B.) if destination area has gateway and this arrived sensor starts communicating with the gateway inside service defined POI (point of interest map area)
    • or as a result of delivery time data integration from elsewhere e.g. ERP-system
  • NOTE: Either vehicle and/or destination POI area should have Seemoto gateway installed.

Solution 3: Smart package with integrated sensor

Very similar to solution 1, but sensor and it's switch functionality is integrated as part of the package. Switch functionality is integrated to lid of the package. When lid is opened or closed, the switch value is monitored, stored and sent to Seemoto service.

Sending:

  • Sensor is integrated as part of the smart package.
  • Switch functionality is integrated to package lid.
  • Sensor monitors temperature continuously and switch ON/OFF status.

On the road:
  • Smart package measures temperatures automatically during trip.
  • Real-time visibility to shipment when vehicle has Seemoto gateways - like described in Option 1 and Option 2.

At destination:

  • Sensor connects to Seemoto network and uploads all temperature data to Seemoto.
  • The packaging is opened and swich status information is delivered to Seemoto.

Seemoto System

Seemoto shipment temperature monitoring system consists of wireless sensor devices, that monitor their environment and communicate the collected data via gateways that forward the data to Seemoto cloud service. The most common monitoring parameters are temperature and relative humidity, but also other parameters have been implemented. Access to real-time and history data of is provided by an internet browser with intuitive UI and versatile reports.
